If you're a matcha lover like me, you have to try the Ceremonial Matcha Lavender with oat milk at House Roots Coffee in Northridge, CA. It's a game-changer compared to the basic matcha you'd find elsewhere. Plus, the coffee shop itself is a great spot to study, work, or hang out with friends and family, with both indoor and outdoor seating areas. And the best part? Drinks are under $10, and CSUN students can get a discount with their student ID. They also have other drinks available for purchase in their fridge.

I had an amazing experience at House Roots Coffee. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere felt warm, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed—perfect for relaxing or getting some work done. The staff was incredibly friendly and genuinely cared about making sure everything was just right. The coffee itself was outstanding—rich, smooth, and clearly made with high-quality beans. You can tell they take pride in what they serve. I also tried a pastry, and it paired perfectly with my drink—fresh and delicious. What really stood out was the overall vibe: clean, cozy, and full of good energy. It’s the kind of place you find yourself wanting to come back to again and again. If you’re in Northridge and looking for a great coffee spot, this place is a must-visit. Highly recommend!

Checked out the new House Roots Coffee in Northridge. The space has a nice setting and good vibes, definitely a pleasant spot to hang out or study. The coffee, though, didn’t quite match the quality of their original location; mine tasted a little burnt and lacked the same balance I’ve come to expect. It feels a bit more commercialized compared to the authentic feel of the first spot. Still, not a bad place overall, but I’d head back to the original when I want the best cup.

I was looking for a coffee shop serving good single-origin coffee, and since this spot was close to my final destination, I decided to stop in. It’s a small, cozy shop with a welcoming vibe, and the baristas were all very friendly. They took the time to explain my drip coffee options, which I appreciated, and helped me make a great choice. I also ordered the bacon and chive scone—very tasty overall, though it could have used just a touch more salt to really elevate the flavor. The coffee, however, was absolutely on point, with rich chocolate and subtle fruity notes that made it a standout cup. I’d definitely come back again for some java in the near future.

Such a delicious cup of Americano here! You can tell a lot about a coffee shop based on their Espresso and Americano, distilling coffee to its purest unadulterated form, and not hiding behind sweet sugar, foamy milk, and flavored syrup. The House Roots Coffee Valley Blend that they use for their Espresso is rich and layered. It's not merely "coffee-tasting." Any good Americano that comes from excellent beans should be more than just that. The hints of peach and hazelnut is most noticeable at first, while the lingering taste evolves to unsweetened chocolate. The selection of whole beans are also really good, making it hard to choose from. I have had a few of their Single Origin bags before, and while they are honestly more difficult to wrangle consistency in flavor and taste when pulling a shot of espresso at home (Single Origin can be like this), the results are worth it. This time around, I'm going to try a new bag I have not tried, the Ethiopia Uraga Gogogu (Landraces Washed) from Guji. Tasting notes are Candied Melon Dried Cherry, and Oolong Tea. The aroma is already so good, so I can't wait to try this at home!
