MAJER San Stae COFFEE HOUSE

Great little cafe! Espresso is awesome! Seems like many locals go here especially in the morning. Croissants are awesome! Stuff is great and speaks very good English! Come here you will like it!

We were very happy to have stumbled upon this hidden gem. The barista was very knowledgeable and was happy to share all kinds of coffee related information with us. She answered all our questions so we left smarter, happier, filled with great coffee (one of the most special beans in the world) and a package of coffee beans in our bag! Note that you only get espresso or pour-over coffee here. No milky-drinks.

We found surprisingly good coffee here at Majer. They offer high-quality, single-origin beans from various countries, all roasted right here in Venice. We tried the medium roast and it was excellent. It’s exactly what we were looking for, especially since they offer both espresso and filter options like V60 and pour-over. The drinks are perfectly complemented by a decent and very tasty selection of sweets. I do have one technical suggestion for the brewing recipe: the current 10g of coffee per 200ml of water felt a bit thin. For a better, more robust flavor profile, I’d recommend moving toward the specialty standard of 15-16g of beans for a 250ml output. Also, since the beans themselves are great, it’s worth noting they can lose their delicate flavors if not preserved perfectly. Considering nitrogen flushing or freezer storage for the beans could really help maintain that fresh-roasted quality. Overall, a fantastic spot for real coffee lovers in Venice!

I strongly recommend that no one ever sets foot in Majer. The shop might look charming from the outside, but what waits inside is a completely different story. We went in simply wanting to buy a pack of biscuits, and were met with an unbelievably rude and aggressive woman behind the counter. She started making vulgar comments about our behavior out of nowhere, then began screaming at us like a complete lunatic. It was so hostile and uncomfortable that we had no choice but to leave the store immediately. Her behavior was not just unprofessional — it was downright threatening and insulting. It ruined what should have been a pleasant moment in Italy. Avoid this place at all costs. There are plenty of lovely cafés and bakeries where they actually respect their customers. Majer is absolutely not one of them.
