If there's anything one can say about Shanghai and the French Concession it should include at least one mention of Marienbad. You're spoiled for choice in this lively neighborhood, it's overflowing with cafes and restaurants. I ventured out for brunch and a break from work and basically stumbled on Marienbad. Not wanting to make the afternoon difficult I opted for the brunch set; mushroom soup and eggs benedict with foisgras. Yes, I know...that's evil. But the duck was already dead and honestly, it's tasty. Hate me, go ahead. Verdict? The eggs were a teensy bit too runny for my taste. The bun got a wee bit too soggy, but the flavors were all there and all in all it was a nice brunch. I chose not to include a photo of the soup. Tasty as it was the colour wasn't all that compelling. My advice? If you're in Shanghai and find yourself in the French Concession, wander over to Marienbad and try it for yourself.

Ideal place for a date! This is a lovely cafe in a trendy, nice area of town. The interior is very nice, and you also have the option to sit facing the street in the open air, watching well dressed people walk by. The coffee and food is very good, and the staff are very nice. The WiFi did not work on my laptop, but worked on my phone. At night, they put flickering faux candles on each table, the place is dimly lit, and you can order wine.
