The Backyard Café and Playground

Very popular with families and a nice place to bring young kids. There's lots of space to run around and my kids liked feeding the rabbits and turtles. There's also a few water buffalo here which are always nice to see. The coffee is good and the food is fine. It's nice to be here on a cool day and sit outside. It can get crowded on the weekends so for best results arrive early. Really nice to have this space in Vientiane. Definitely recommended for families.

Not dog friendly and poor communication. Foreigners not welcome. We visited Backyard Cafe with our dog, assuming it would be fine since the seating is outdoors. However, as soon as we arrived, the owner informed us that dogs are not allowed. Unfortunately, there are no signs, and nothing on their website or Google Maps mentions this policy. We were willing to keep our dog on a leash and ensure he wouldn’t disturb anyone, but the lack of clear communication made the situation worse. Neither the staff nor the owner could communicate in English, and since we don’t speak Lao, there was no way to have a proper conversation. To avoid making a scene, we left immediately. If you’re a dog owner or looking for a family-friendly spot, this is not the place for you. The experience left a bad impression, and we will not be returning. Clearer policies and better communication would go a long way in improving their service.

Wonderful place!! There's a range of seating options indoors and outdoors. visited on weekend. It was a relaxing morning with my family. Coffee was nice and food was ok as well. the service was friendly and attentive. Would come back here again for sure. highly recommended!!
