Baker's Barn Bakery & Cafe

Stumbled upon this café with the genuine intention of supporting a neighbourhood local business, but unfortunately, the experience was really disappointing. After reading some of the lower-rated reviews here, I have to say I can understand where they are coming from. We came on a weekend morning and the bakery section already had only a few bagels and pastries left. That immediately made me question the freshness of what was being served. We ordered a sandwich and waited for more than half an hour. At that point, I was expecting it to be worth the wait, but it turned out to be extremely basic: two pieces of dry, hard sourdough with bacon, ham and egg, but no proper sauce or anything that made it feel café-worthy. For RM26+, customers naturally expect something better than what they can easily make at home. I’m not trying to be picky, photo attached for reference, especially if the team genuinely wants to improve. The chocolate bagel was served overly hot, clearly reheated to the point where it became crunchy for a short moment, then quickly turned hard and tough. A bagel should be chewy, not rock-hard. The vanilla madeleine was probably the most disappointing part. A madeleine should be soft, moist and delicate, but this came out hard like a biscuit. The staff kindly offered to change it, which I appreciated, but what shocked me was how it was “fixed”! It seemed to be softened with water and reheated again before being served back to us. As a paying customer, that is really not acceptable. The matcha latte was also poorly prepared. I could actually taste lumps of matcha powder while drinking it. If you are serving branded Niko Neko matcha, the preparation should match the quality of the ingredient. Proper whisking matters. This is not written to attack the business, but as an honest review from someone who genuinely wanted to enjoy a decent café experience in the neighbourhood. If you position yourself as a bakery or café, there needs to be a basic standard, freshness, texture, preparation, and consistency all matter.

We made reservations however when we arrived, the staff were not aware of it. Thankfully there was a table available for the 5 of us. The 2 items we ordered were not available and only informed to us later. The avocado bagel we ordered had to be returned as the avocado was totally unripe. The other food we ordered was good. Service not bad, but could be improved. Pretty atmosphere but air cond is not strong enough. It was already quite warm even at 11.30am. Washroom was clean but perhaps may need to upgrade to a WC instead of a squatting toilet bowl. I would give this place another chance as food and bagels were quite good.

This morning I thought I lost my watch. 😅 Reached home and couldn’t find it anywhere… then I checked my selfie taken at the café — I was still wearing it! So I called the café to try my luck. And guess what? An honest owner or staff there had found it and kept it safely for me. 🙏✨ Really touched by his integrity. In a world where we often hear negative news, this small act means a lot. If you’re looking for breakfast or lunch, do drop by and support them. Good food, and even better people. 💖

Upstairs cafe with lots of decorative flowers. The owners personal collection of travel souvenirs like key chains and Starbucks mugs are incorporated into the decor. A good selection of bagels. Gave the purple sweet potato salted egg one a try for the novelty factor. Surprised to find actual salted egg yolk inside, quite a lot too. Flat white was a bit tepid. Maybe it's me, but I was confused where to make the order because the cashier is kind of hidden.

Update Apr 2026 Unfortunately chef has changed. I don't recommend this place anymore. ---------*-------- Feb 2026 Most reviewers have mentioned the bagels only. I would like to add the grilled chicken chop is delicious too. Good portion, well cooked and the gravy is tasty (I think there is cayenne pepper in it). Besides that, the pasta carbonara also was appreciated. Forgot to take a picture of it. 4* for the service as young lady cashier/waitress was pleasant, but seemed very shy and wasn't familiar with the set lunch deals.
