Hoppenworth & Ploch Altstadt Café

The experience was warm and enjoyable. However, due to the café’s popularity, there might be a short wait for seating. The staff was incredibly kind and helpful throughout. We ordered a cappuccino and a salted caramel chocolate cake—both were outstanding. The coffee was lighter but well-rounded in flavor, while the cake struck a perfect balance between sweetness and richness, enhancing its overall taste. Later, I tried a latte, which was good but didn’t quite match the excellence of the cappuccino. Overall, this café is a must-visit!

We recently visited Frankfurt and tried several coffee shops around the Old Town, including Hoppenworth & Ploch at Markt just around the corner from Dom/Römer U-bahn station entrance. They have a small indoor seating area but have an outdoor order window if you want take-away coffee orders or prefer to enjoy a coffee outside. I had a very good espresso macchiato here at Hoppenworth & Ploch here. Coffee was bold and strong, just enough milk to cut the edge and smooth out the flavour. Very nice coffee, worth repeat ordering.

I tried almost everything at this place and loved it all! The pistachio cube, croissant roll, canele, flan croissant, and saffron snorres were absolutely delicious. The chocolate croissant, though, was average compared to the other items. The cappuccino was good but too small, so I’d recommend ordering the large. The place is usually crowded, and some pastries may be unavailable when you visit, so plan accordingly!

this place definitely makes one of the best matcha i have ever drank. other drinks we got were also well made. the croissants are pricey, but tasty as well. the atmosphere and service were amazing.
