Ombra del Leone

Beautiful hidden terrace for a nice outdoor lunch overlooking the Canal Grande. I particularly liked the pece spada on patato cream. With table cloths and textile napkins. Around 50€ per person for a nice lunch.

Hidden Terrace. I saw in another review. Great description. Was very fortunate to hang out here for the Regatta Storica. Great seat to sit and watch the parade and the races as they fly by but also just as great to sit on the grand canal and enjoy the gondolieri who loiter nearby as they pass time in between fares. Prices are fare or even at a value relative to many locations on the main thoroughfare. Service is nice if you’re not expecting the world. Perhaps they are on island time. Which is great. IMHO.

We had a wonderful dinner at Ombra del Leone. The food was delicious, the service was attentive, and the location overlooking the Grand Canal made the evening truly special. A beautiful setting for a relaxing meal in Venice. Highly recommended!

Food: The clam pasta was delicious. The octopus pasta was okay. The swordfish bite that they keep advertising as amazing and fresh: not so good. I do not doubt the freshness but it's not as good as everyone makes it seems. It is lemony and has a doughy consistency. Service: Was not great. There was a large party on the otherside of the patio, but no one in our section. I enjoy my meals and limited visits from the wait staff, but this was too slow. View: It is an open view of the water. It gets a little loud with the waves but it is a beautiful view of San Giorgio during sunset.

Of course, it’s a beautiful place thanks to the amazing view of the Basilica della Salute. If you just want to sit down and enjoy a coffee or a glass of wine, it’s perfect. As for having a proper dinner, I’m not so sure the portions are very small and the prices are quite high. In my opinion, they’re not worth it. However, the staff is friendly, and I would recommend making a reservation in advance; otherwise, you might end up sitting indoors instead of on the outdoor terrace.
